Why Mmelebo Foundation Exists
Mmelebo Foundation exists because too many children in South Africa reach the upper grades without the ability to read for meaning. When a child struggles to read, every subject becomes difficult, confidence drops, and opportunities for success become limited.
In many communities, schools and educators work hard but often lack enough resources, reading materials, and support systems to help struggling learners. This creates a gap where children who need help the most are left behind. Mmelebo Foundation was created to close this gap.
The foundation focuses on giving children the support they need to develop strong reading skills during the most critical years of learning. By working closely with schools, educators, volunteers, and communities, the foundation provides structured reading intervention programs, promotes a culture of reading, and supports learners’ emotional and mental wellbeing.
We believe that reading is more than just a school skill — it is a life-changing tool. A child who can read confidently can learn independently, dream bigger, and build a better future.
Mmelebo Foundation exists to ensure that no child is left behind simply because they did not receive the reading support they needed at the right time. Through literacy development, community partnerships, and advocacy, the foundation is committed to helping children unlock their full potential.
